As a tech leader and tech optimist (that's a thing!) I've been thinking about how AI will impact my people, their work and what it means for me as a people leader.

Here's where I've landed, for now.

In a collaborative meeting, individuals engage in a dynamic discussion, with a laptop displaying data and a notebook ready for jotting down key points.
In a collaborative meeting, individuals engage in a dynamic discussion, with a laptop displaying data and a notebook ready for jotting down key points.

AI will change the way we work and intentional leadership is more important than ever.

People's biggest fear? Being replaced.

Our biggest opportunity as leaders? Helping them grow with AI, not against it.

Here’s where I’m focusing:

✅ Education and upskilling.

  • Training on AI tools to enhance productivity, not replace roles.

  • Continuous learning in areas AI can't replicate - critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence.

  • Help people understand AI's capabilities and limitations, reducing fear and resistance.

✅ Identifying high-value work.

  • Shift the focus from repetitive tasks to work that requires human judgement and innovation.

  • Guide people to leverage AI for efficiency while prioritising uniquely human contributions.

  • Encourage people to explore AI-driven opportunities rather than fear automation.

✅ Strengthening human-AI collaboration.

  • Promote a mindset where AI is seen as a partner, not a competitor.

  • Encourage experimentation with AI tools to improve workflows and decision-making.

  • Reinforce that the most valuable work happens when humans and AI complement each other—AI handles data, humans provide insight and creativity.

  • Create a culture where employees feel safe exploring AI's potential without fear of judgment or job loss.

The future needs:

🔹 Critical thinkers who guide AI.

🔹 Creative minds who innovate with AI.

🔹 Empathetic leaders who balance tech with humanity.

Our job isn’t to protect people from AI. It’s to prepare them to thrive with it.

AI handles tasks. Humans create meaning.

What else should we consider to set our people up for success in a future of AI?
